Oh succulent garden!

There was a time, almost seven years back, when we were young(er!), energetic, enthusiastic and equally foolish to try anything new….. we had also just bough our first home. Blame our foolishness on that! So, riding on the high tide of pride of land lordship, we made extensive plans of planting a vegetable and herb garden in our backyard…. parts of the grand design were implemented…. and thankfully so….. because within a couple of years, we learned a few things about ourselves. One, we want a beautiful yard. Two, we want to have some spare time to enjoy the garden and not spend every waking evening and weekend second tending the plants. Three, we were becoming amazingly adept at killing the hardiest of plants. Has anyone killed a lavender EVER?

So, out went the tomatoes, cucumber, cauliflower, basil, bell pepper, spring onion, cilantro and a whole bunch of other green pain in the *%% edibles.

And, in marched the absolute best, darling succulents and cactii…. Oh, how I LOVE thee, mighty succulents!

My first painting

Why is it so easy to start something and leave it hanging till it bites the dust??? Since my initiation into the world of blogging – specifically, reading blogs, that too only DIY, craft, and decor blogs, I had the itch to share what I have created and show what I have learnt from smart bloggers. But, all I have managed to do is read, read and read some more blogs…. I live blogs…. other blogs. It is late for me to join this world of amazingly talented women…. with the hope that it is never too late. Amen!

I want to share a painting I did with fabric paint on a piece of silk left over from our drapes. It hangs (rather, used to hang) in the pooja corner in our dining room/kitchen. I stitched the top ends of the fabric to make a loop big enough for a 1/2# rod to slide through. This particular rod belongs to my Belgian tapestry. Zero dollar spent on hardware.

Home

We bought our home nearly 7 years ago but it is now that I have finally started chronicling the way we learned to be good homeowners – planning the exterior and interior to match our tastes and preferences.

Last year, my husband (the other one a.k.a O2), decided to go to England to fulfill his dream of studying abroad. It coincided with the birth of our daughter – so, family in tow, O2 left for the U.K and our home was rented out to take care of the hefty mortgage payment. The year flew by and we are back – but, with a growing family, we now feel like things need to change. We LOVE*LOVE our home. So, buying something new is not a very endearing idea right now (let’s forget for a second that there is no moolah in the piggy bank either!).  Anyhow, cutting to the chase, we would like to do a few renovations and upgrades to our home before moving back in this summer.

I hope that our reno/deco project results this time around are a bit more grown-up.

Let me leave you with a street view of our home, as it was when we crossed the pond-
